Call for Rho-Bot ideas and suggestions. - Scott

Well, there has not been much news lately. But I am preparing to make some updates to the Rho-Bot, and I am looking for suggestions from you, the players, on features that you would like to see in the Rho-Bot or other changes to the Rho-Bot. Please e-mail your comments to me. Thanks!

Rho-DMC 1.1 - Scott

Throw away the rhodmc folder. A new version of the Rho-DMC bot is out. This one installs directly to the dmc folder, and eliminates the duplication of files (I should have done this in the first place). You can download the Rho-DMC 1.1 bot here.

Sno-Bot for Snow-War - Scott

Snow-War now has the Rho-Bot included. Check it out!

Rho-DMC 1.0 Installation Notice - Scott

At least one person is having problems installing Rho-DMC 1.0. You need to double-click on the rhodmc10.zip first to read the instructions for installation. If you just do an Extract to..." without first reading the instructions, it will not be installed correctly. I am working on a fix to make it more obvious to do it right, or harder to do it wrong!

End-of-Year Status - Scott

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and will have a safe and Happy New Year! Here is where the Rho-Bot stands at the end of 2001.

  • Rho-Bot 2.0 beta 2 has been out for a while. The final 2.0 version is being delayed because I discovered some issues porting the Rho-Bot to Deathmatch Classic that need to be addressed. I plan to release the final version sometime early next year.
  • Rho-DMC was created, and is being modified, and improvements are being ported back to the standard Rho-Bot. Look for Rho-DMC with the Rho-Bot 2.0 release.
  • I haven't mentioned this before, but I have been working on another mod, Snow-War. This has been a good change from the Bot scene. The 1.0 version was released on December 22, 2001. One of my goals for next year is to have the Rho-Bot included in this mod.

Well, that is it for this year. See you in 2002.

Rho-Bot now in the AG mod - Scott

The Adrenaline Gamer MOD has included the Rho-Bot in the latest release. Thanks, Martin "BulliT" Webrant for adding the Rho-Bot to AG.

    Rho-Bot 2.0 to be released - Scott

The final version of Rho-Bot 2.0 will be out soon. I have ported the bot to the released SDK 2.2, and should have the finishing touches on it soon.

    Announcing Rho-DMC - Scott

With the new version of the Half-Life SDK 2.2, the source code to DeathMatch Classic (DMC) was released. I have been working on adding the Rho-Bot to the DMC code, making the Rho-DMC bot. I hope to release the first version of this bot with the Rho-Bot 2.0 release.

    Rho-Bot 2.0 Beta 2 released. - Scott

Rho-Bot 2.0 Beta 2 has been released. This version is made to work with Half-Life 1.1.0.8 and the full SDK 2.2 (beta). This version of the bot fixes some problems related to the transition from 1.1.0.7 to 1.1.0.8. Also, a few other minor changes have been made. You can download the new version here. Until the final version of the SDK 2.2 is delivered by Valve, the bot will retain the beta tag.

    Rho-Bot 2.0 Beta 1 works with Half-Life upgrade. - Scott

So far, I have not experienced any problems with the Rho-Bot 2.0 Beta 1 working with Half-Life version 1.1.0.8. Please let me know if you are having any problems. I will be in the process of updating Rho-Bot to work with the new SDK, and will have another beta release soon.

On another note, Mr. BLonDe is using the Rho-Bot in his mod. You can check it out here.

    Rho-Bot 2.0 Beta 1 Released - Scott

The newest version of the Rho-Bot is available. This new version contains many new items, including Bot Chat based on the ALICE bot. Other changes include a spectator mode, a new bot format (don't panic, there is a simple utility to update bot from the old format), improvement to the navigation (which, unfortunately renders the old .nav files useless), and more realistic aiming and shooting by the bots. Also, additional README.TXT files have been added that describe how the bot works and how it can be modified. You can download the new version here. Thanks goes to Vacindak for the bot chat and spectator mode!

While the current version has been quite stable in limited testing, there are two reasons for a beta release:

  • The new features need additional testing to see if there are any problems.
  • There will be an Half-Life update released soon (version 1.1.0.8). The Rho-Bot will need to be updated to work with the new version.

If you want to try out the new features, please download the new version. Also, if you have any problems or questions about the new or old Rho-Bot, you can discuss them on the Help forum, Discussion forum, or e-mail me.
